Jessicas and pleasure island

The island itself had a backstory of once belonging to Merriweather Adam Pleasure, who used the buildings for his seafaring business. Ina Mississippi side-wheeler steamed into Lake Buena Vista and dropped anchor next to a low-lying hummock of sawgrass.

Jessica’s was a small shop originally billed as a lingerie store, although the majority of what was inside was actually Jessica Rabbit-themed souvenirs like t-shirts, magnets, beach towels, etc. It is our fault because we have not told the story clearly.

A slight change in one seemingly minor part of the narrative can affect the entire story. This seemingly hare-brained scheme, hatched at the end of the great era of merchant sailing, was in fact a gold mine. Jessica Rabbit, the overly sexualized character from Who Framed Roger Rabbit, was the unofficial mascot for the area.

In Memory of the

On the real Pleasure Island, when the Fireworks Factory restaurant was replaced by the Wildhorse Saloon and then the dance club Motion, the story of the island changed significantly. A year later, inDisney opened Jessica’s (often mistakenly referred to as ‘Jessica’s of Hollywood’) on Pleasure Island.

When that section was cut out of the final story, it now made no sense that Gepetto would be missing for so long and his workshop covered in dust and cobwebs. In truth, the original storyboard had a much longer and much more elaborate departure from Pleasure Island that was very reminiscent of a scene from a prison escape movie, with the duo lost at sea for a period of time.

Bythe exasperated Mrs. Pleasure Island was an area of the Downtown Disney shopping, dining and entertainment district at Walt Disney World Resort.

Around the same time, the iconic Jessica Rabbit figure was removed from the “Pleasure Island Tonight!” sign—an act that quietly marked the end of the area’s more irreverent branding. It officially opened on May 1, Pleasure Island featuring Jessica's and YesterEars.

That must have been some night at Pleasure Island! Soon, the house was overflowing with booty collected from his exotic voyages. In the animated classic PinocchioPinocchio and Jiminy Cricket visit Pleasure Island for one night, but when they return home the next morning, they discover that Gepetto has been missing for days or weeks.

In JuneDisney announced that it would be closing all clubs to make way for new shops and family-friendly entertainment. Although, in truth, cast members and guests have been unaware of the original Imagineering storyline of Pleasure Island for over 10 years.

In short, it would be a place to make his dreams come true. Cast iron, cement block and timber appearing on the island alerted the local populace which at that time were simply a couple of alligators and a family of herons not only that something was up on Pleasure Island but that something was going up.

The same concept holds true for three-dimensional storytelling. The skipper was exultant.

Certainly one of the challenges facing the Disney Company today is that cast members are unaware of the story about their location and how they are part of that story. The low-lying buildings of Chandler Row were constructed as Pleasure extended his business to refurbishing the yachts of the rich and famous.

Jessica Rabbit Store 25th Anniversary - Part Two: The Building Pleasure Island was more than a new location filled with shops and bars, it was actually an entirely new themed area. For a decade or more that has been true of the Pleasure Island cast members, so they have been unable to communicate the rich history of the island to guests.

It would be a one-man, dominion-manufacturing center, research lab and development facility, a social nexus for the famous and well-to-do. While the Walt Disney Company is known for storytelling, it is important to remember that stories are very fragile.

The Pleasure family soon outgrew their showboat home. Pleasure Island was for ages 21 and older only.
